Proposed Event:
Dear Friend & Colleague of Greg’s —
I am exploring the idea of staging a memorial livestream concert in Greg’s memory. I would love for his close friends and collaborators to each (on within ensembles) have some “airtime” to present music and/or words to the world in his memory.
Let’s celebrate his legacy in the big, hi-fidelity way it deserves!
The proceeds from any commercial transactions related to this event (selling of event recording as downloads or streams — possibly even charging for the livestream itself — selling of any merchandise created for the event, etc.) would 100% be forwarded to Joyce to use as she sees fit. So there’s a fundraising aspect of this to explore…
A dear friend and collaborator of Greg’s — James McLaughlin — has graciously offered his superb tracking studio and his audio engineering expertise to the project. It is up to me to do/coordinate everything else.
It’s important that we unite Greg’s diverse musical collaborators (many in Charlottesville, VA) with the Stick community. To achieve that goal, it will be necessary for those participating musicians/speakers outside of the Charlottesville area to either:
Come to Charlottesville
Remote in to the video stream in real time
Pre-record your video contribution (to be played during the event)
So I’d like to gauge your participation interest in this project:
In addition to sharing how you know Greg, please indicate if you:
would like to perform and/or speak at the event
if so, in-person, remotely, or via recording?
can help plan and organize the event
can provide technological help — video people, I’m looking at you
know of a non-obvious collaborator whom you feel should absolutely be included
we will try to make this open to any Stick player who wants to participate, as I believe that would be Greg’s wish
Please also indicate:
your instrument, proposed ensemble instrumentation
any links to your work that you’d like to share
General range of available dates/times — this event may take weeks/months to plan. I would like to schedule it as soon as possible, so this is maybe the most important data point.
Thanks for reading and considering,
With love and condolences on the loss of our great friend,
Michael Sokolowski
