About Offering:
This band came about as a result of three friends getting together to hang out, alter consciousness, and eventually deciding to explore the outer edges of music together. In the late 80s and early 90s, Offering played a bunch of gigs ranging from small clubs, to intimate listening spaces, to big noisy stages.
Worth brings a very strong affinity for jazz — from bebop to free — as well as a deep connection to roots blues of the Mississippi Delta. Tim draws from all forms of music and all things guitar. Classical music, jazz of all eras, funk, R&B, church music, and progressive music of all kinds converge under his fingers. Michael was musically born into, and nurtured by, classical music — later finding that improvised music in the jazz, rock, and eastern traditions spoke most deeply to him. They all share a musically adventurous spirit and a love of musics from all over the world and from all cultures. And of course, all three members of Offering are generationally rock ‘n’ roll kids.
Tracks 1-9 were recorded in performance at the Prism Coffehouse on Friday, May 24, 1991 by W. Van Meter Johnson. Track 10 is a studio recording from April 2000.
Regarding the live recording, the music was captured in stereo by two Shure SM 81 microphones in conjunction with one Shure SM 80 placed for ambience. The signal was fed through two microphone mixers (Furman MM8 and Innovative Audio Systems VTMP-2 tube mixer) into a Panasonic SV 3500 DAT recorder. Mastering was accomplished using 2 SV 3500s and a Theta D.S. Pro Generation II digital signal processor. All interconnects were Straight Wire. Recording, editing, and mastering of live tracks by Van Johnson.
Overdubs, treatments, mixing, final mastering of live tracks by Chris Kress and Victor Benshoff, October 1998/March 1999 at PMD Recording, Charlottesville, VA. Track 10 recorded at Breezeway Studios, Charlottesville and Amherst VA and Stepbridge Studios, Sante Fe, NM by Michael Sokolowski and Tim Stroh, April 2000.
